May 20
1917. With the Overland home at last from being overhauled, the rest of the family all went to church. I got dinner, first meal I prepared for ten days. Read most of Stewart Edward White's "The Rules of the Game".
1918. A fine day. We got up at six and hoed 11 rows of corn in our big garden. Baked wheatless bread and conservation orange short cake. Crocheted 2 "daisies" for daisy yoke. Saw "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in movies, also negro band. Helena and Olga sent us cut glass vase for a belated wedding gift.
1919. Hilda fussed some, and I couldn't get washing (big one as usual) out till after dinner. Fine day. Evenings are still quite cool. I transplanted Kentucky wonder beans Letter from Helena.
1920. Washed some flannels, painted stairway brown, mended in P.M; Whitney's came in P.M. Fine day. Peach trees in blossom.
1921. Mended and sewed. Hans and I finished planting later potatoes, also lima beans, and more corn and wax beans.
