May 21 1917. I hemmed a napkin, crocheted on my insertion, and began a scalloped handkerchief with shell edging. Rainy and cold and raw. 1918. Big rain in night again. Steamed brown bread. Sent Helen fancy hairpin and comb for commencement gift, tho a little late. Finished white dress for Beatrice, shortened my old tissue gingham dress, crocheted 2 "daisies". Walked to our garden, came back and called on "Chesty" Miller and wife. 1919. Ironed by piecemeal. I took Hilda to see Dr. T. He says "more Horlicks, + maybe Mellin's Food." Mrs. Miller here a while, I sewed just a few stitches. Have almost given up Iowa trip for now. Wrote to mamma. 1920. Fine summer day. I worked in garden most of forenoon, cultivating, and planted another row of radish, 12 cucumber hills, spinach, and parsley, also dahlias, and set out madeira vine. Put up sewing-room curtains, and sat in there to mend hose. Milked 4 cows. Adela's school is out. 1921. Minnie baked the bread. Got my dress nearly done. Made Signe two bibs.
