May 28 1917. Hemmed 2 1/3 yd. white cotton table-cloth mamma gave me. Worked on my spread. Typed "Appeasing Autumn Appetites." Aunt Minnie and Uncle John were here in P.M. Hans sent me floor plan of our Bagley house. 1918. Wrote to Mildred. Crocheted most of the day, finishing top edge of daisy yoke. Did some pressing. Yesterday and today it rained three inches and it's not very warm. In evening Hans and I made three tomato frames like ones he made at Bagley. His salary for March & Apr., $350, came at last. 1919. Hans and I looked at a hill-farm for sale by Maquoketa River, also went to Otto Weidemann's, Summer's, and to see his cousin, Henry Greenwald, back from the war. Olga and Orville went to housekeeping on his father's farm near Elwood. 1920. Helped Hans nip teeth from a dozen young pigs, washed woolens, baked chocolate cake. In P.M. drove Ford to last day program in which Velma and Oscar took part. Constance and Hazel "went with". Hilda enjoyed her first ice cream. Went to Nashville for gas. Took 57 doz. eggs. Letter from August. 1921. Baked chocolate cake and buns, did some mending. Shortened sleeves of white voile waist. Velma here to spend day. Awake in night sometime because my rheumatic shoulder hurt.
