JUNE 1 1917. Hans and I spent a busy day packing the rest of my things. Mamma gave me her sewing-machine. Papa gave me a check for $ 100. We started away after supper, stopped at Charlies, but did not see his new boy. Spent an hour at Uncle John's. They gave us a set of soup spoons and a small Brussels rug. Rained. Our train late to C.R. 1918. Up late as it rained again. Managed to get a little to eat-baked bran cookies and wheatless bread. Finished crocheting first sleeve in yoke. Hans hoed four hours in potato patch - till dark. I weeded out a carrot row. 1919. A hot day. Went to church with George and Helen. Helen and Phila Watson sang duet. I took nap in hammock in P.M. Leslie and Hans went to see Paul Pownall - Margaret + Raymond Fitz and Dorothy D. here a while, 1920. Glen Warren started as chore boy here. We worked. After dinner it poured rain. 2 chickens drowned. Spent P.M. drying out chicks + goslings in house. Glen helped me spray chicken house + me put chicks there. 1921. Helped iron a little, baked bread, set out 33 tomato plants Hans' mother gave us, replanted parsnips, carrots, + beets; took needed nap. Letter from Amanda.
