JUNE 2 1917. Got a little sleep at the Magnus Hotel, Cedar Rapids. Left at 5:00 A.M. for Nashville, changing at Delmar. August Skott took us in their Ford thru pouring rain + heavy mud to Hans' home. We got there sooner than planned. Rain continued most of day. All of Skott's home this time. I had not known Helena before. 1918. A beautiful Sunday. Church in A.M. 30 mile Ford ride, roads bad to Burbank. Got red sweet williams by roadside, and rhubarb at Gaeger Bros. Mr. Dunlap took us to see his fine 2 A. of strawberries. Miller's were here a while in evening. Mrs. Halderson made a back - porch call. Large rain in night. 1919. Rained in night, so could not start home. Hilda has diarrhoea. Mamma helped me can 7 qts. of rhubarb. Did some washing. 1920. Picked first ripe strawberry. Finished my can of brown paint before I did the floor! Lacquered the bed. Constance and I made a cotton mattress pad for Jim's bed. Canned 3 pt. rhubarb - prune - fig conserve. Fixed up room for Glen. Hans and I went to Weideman's in eve, and to folks', but Hans' grandmother had retired. 1921. Hans and Alfred took our heating stoves out and we cleaned the front room in P.M. I beat most of the rug. Nice day for work, not too hot.
