JUNE 3 1917. A beautiful Sunday. After lunch Hans and I walked up the road, and sat in the sun till I got my neck sunburned. Stopped at Campbell's. where Amanda works. Many of the neighbors were in to wish us well, in P.M. and evening - Otto and Margaret Weideman. Mrs. Walker gave us pickle dish. Cranes from Va., Walker's etc. Hans and I went for candy in Ford. 1918. Up at 6:30. but it got so dark we could hardly see. I mended, etc. mopped three rooms, baked rhubarb pie and steamed brown bread, We looked for I. B. Johnson but he can't come for a month. Went to Red Cross with Mrs. Miller and made a hospital shirt. Went to see Dr. Burkland. 1919. Still rainy and Hans anxious to start home. Managed to get another nap. Started to crochet a large centerpiece as I had brought no sewing along. 1920. Constance stayed in bed till nearly noon. I had dishes, separator, everything to do. Baked bread, hoed in garden, finished the ironing, treated late potatoes with formaldehyde. Mr. Whitney here for dinner. Hans and I planted 79 cabbage plants in eve. 1921. I revarnished the dining room linoleum. Olga come for me to go to Crane school program with her, but I didn't want to bother them with the babies. Did a 4 washerful washing while Signe took her morning nap.
