1917-1921 - 06-05

JUNE 5 
1917. Hans to Maquoketa for the Ford. He bought me rubbers a lucky purchase. I pressed his clothes, trimmed a hat for Helena, taught Amanda a new crochet edge, cut and sewed on gowns and under garments for her and Olga -  and helped Hans pack. August and Helena took us to Elwood for 8:00 P.M. train - in mud. Ford had a hard time. Sleeper from C.R. Letter from Constance, to whom we give Woman's Home. Comm. for graduation gift.
1918. Oh, so muddy, but sunny again in P.M. I canned another quart of pineapple - rhubarb marmalade, with orange and nuts. Made myself a percale corset cover. We planted a half row of small peanuts and hoed a row of potatoes, tho it was really too muddy.
1919. Papa wanted to pay my way on train to Vermillion, but Hans wanted me to go with him in Ford. Floods to west, so we went to Maquoketa via Davenport. Awful to get to W.L., also from Welton to M. Got stuck in one hole an HR. From 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Skott's surprised again.
1920. Baked molasses - oatmeal cookies, nut bread, and pumpkin pies; packed my suitcase, did a little washing and ironing; mopped both linoleums, etc. Hans planted rest of truck patch. 
1921. Minnie packed lunch for us, and we left at 9 A.M., stopped for Hans' father + mother, then we went on a 30 mile trip - thru Nashville, Baldwin, Rayertown (!). Emmeline, Canton, Iron Hill. Had a blow out; caused delay. Home at 4. At Lafe Scott's in eve.
