JUNE 10 1917. We came in the Ford to town. Went to Congregational church and S.S. Rev. Dale took us back in his Chevrolet. Very hot, windy, and dry. Hans and I walked around the big woods pasture, and sat in our lawn swing under the poplars - as long as mosquitoes let us. Wrote Hazel Scott. 1918. Hans and cultivated 7 rows of potatoes. Summer school at Univ. begins and Supt. Lyman + wife of Elk Point came to stay with us during the session. I made a hospital bed - shirt and most of another. Went to Red Cross in P.M. Set out pepper bed by the house. Very hot, above 100°. 1919. More rain as we left Eagle Grove at 9:00 A.M. on train. Iowa and Dakota horribly wet. Changed cars at Hawarden and Elk Point, where we had supper at Crandall's. Saw Laura Jones in office. Home at last at 8:00 P.M. Garden has grown amazingly. Mrs. Miller here a while. 1920. Helped Constance iron. Sewed a little. Transplanted some early cabbage plants. 1921. Letter from Constance, at Niagara, N.D, with crocheted yoke for Hilda. Had couple of good showers.
