1917-1921 - 06-14

JUNE 14
1917. Achieved a pie, a raisin pie, with the help of tamarack chips, in spite of no pie pan, no board, and no mixing bowl. Pressed Hans' clothes, retrimmed two hats. Mr. + Mrs. R.M. Day - both Ames alumni, - and Mr. + Mrs. Dr. Covey spent evening here, sitting on our porch.  
1918. Planted more of "George's soup beans", chicory, parsley, and snapdragons south of house. Washed windows on north side of house on outside. Finishing that job. Baked bran cookies. Went to Ladies' Aid at Rev. Wilcox's. Hans and I hoed in big garden till 8:00. I transplanted asters. Had beans to eat.
1919. Canned 2 more qts. of greens - mustard and Pak Choi. Did my ironing from 7:20 to 8:45 P.M. Hilda kept us all awake till midnight - making three nights of that in succession. 
1920. Constance and I cleaned the kitchen, scrubbing the grooved ceiling and walls. Picked and canned 4 qt. strawberries. Finished reading "Love's Labor Won" (not worth wasting time on). Hans and I planted out about 100 cabbage plants in eve. 
1921. I did 10 washerfuls - it rained some in P.M. but most of the clothes got dry.
