June 17 1917. Very hot again for Sunday. As there was no Congregational Church today, we stayed home. Read part of "Love's Dilemma" aloud, in lawn swing. Went for milk in evening to Ole's. Acquaintance with Jennie, Olaf, Cora, Inga, Iver, Martha, Ruth + Leonard develops. 1918. Had a kind of headache, but cultivated the home garden, spent two hours in Hans' office dictating to Miss Peterson, canned 1 1/2 qts mustard + beet greens, 1 qt Pak choi, and 1 pt beet pickles, shortened two dresses, finished a Red Cross shirt, etc. Drove Ford to town + garden with Mrs. Leyman and Mrs. Long. 1919. Didn't get my washing done till 4:00! Hans started for Eagle Grove at 3:00 P.M. Edith Gallup called. I enlarged belt of lace cloth waist. Hilda and I went to Peterson's in eve. August here all night. Wrote to Skotts'. 1920. Letter from papa that Perry is killed. Mopped, picked and canned 4 qt. strawberries. Several neighbors here as Julia Brekke phoned we would have chicken culling demonstration, and we got no word to contrary. 9 here for dinner- Hans' mother, and Velma and Lawrence Warren. Had first peas. Cut out blue silk coat for Hilda. 1921. Canned 5 qt veal, from the other hind quarter. (June 18) Made chocolate cake, mince pies, [illegible], + marshmallows. Covered two boxes for box social. Adela, Oscar, and Minnie went with us to the social at Chris' Weideman's. Hans auctioneered the boxes from 11 to 12:15. He got mine.
