June 18 1917. Wash day again. Some shower in the night. I helped Hans put in sweet corn and rutabaga in our 3/4 acre patch. I made me a sun shade from some rough hat braid I had. 1918. Got up at 5:00 A.M. Drove Ford to garden and hoed 2 1/2 rows sweet corn. Did a good sized washing, baked quick coffee-bread - then took a nap. Did some mending, finished the crochet yoke- to be sent to Mildred Savage. Long letter from mamma. They have new piano. Finished transplanting asters. 1919. Ironed, did some mending, baked cake, hoed in garden. Hot. Hilda is well at last. We walked to P.O. + library in eve and called on Mrs. Gallup. Letters from mamma + Mabel C. Hans got home at 10:30 P.M. after strenuous trip with Ford. 1920. Shortened 9 yr. old dress to wear. Picked berries; we caught barn hens again, and this time Mr. Ward of Ames culled 25 hens from my flock of 80. He and Fritchie, Co. agent's assistant, here for dinner. Wrote to Margaret F. Jim + Constance to town to see doctor in P.M. Lottie Hunter, our neighbor for the summer, called. June 19, 1921. Home at 2:00 A.M! Alfred got in just ahead of us! I baked pumpkin pies and got big kettle of peas ready; Hans made lacto and ice cream at the creamery. The neighbors surprised Hans' father for birthday dinner (He is 55 tomorrow). We had cafeteria dinner.
