June 28 1917. I left camp at 7:30 and walked to town. It was fine going. I hoed beans and potatoes; got groceries and brought them out, in Mr. Kaiser's Ford. Six of Iverson's came for me and I walked there with them, and watched the men build concrete and "niggerhead" foundation for their barn. Day's came out for us in the evening, for us to look at their furniture. 1918. A good-sized rain in morning. I made a Mocha nut cake, brown bread, and 2 qt green tomato sauce, with figs, pears, crabs, etc. Instead of going to see the Clay Co. 121 boys leave for camp (92 of whom are farmers or farm laborers) I made a Red Cross bed shirt, and painted 3 tomato frames. Ray Miller + wife stopped here a while enroute to their home in Sioux City. 1919. Baked bread, canned 2 qt peas, cleaned up whole house, finished Hilda's blue flowered dress. She was very good today. Letter from Mabel C. and wedding announcement of Mildred Savage. 1920. Pained most of night, and some in day. Did huge washing, finished last week's mending (should be June 29). Helped Constance pick and can 4 qt cherries, mended, wrote to Keck's. 1921. A clear morning and as Helen was in a hurry to return to Davenport, they started about 11. Minnie and I canned 5 qt. veal from another calf Hans and Lafe Scott dressed yesterday. Hans' father here- we had 1 o'clock dinner.
