June 29 1917. Baked bread and gingerbread and apple pie. Began to write a Minnesota story. Also worked on crocheting again after a month without it. Went to Carlson's and engaged eggs and potatoes, then to Iverson's till Hans came home. Emma Reno sent me an apron like one she sent Florence. 1918. Had first carrots to eat. I washed Ford- then a sharp rain came. I wrote and typed Canning Dem. stories for the Beresford papers. At 5:45 we started for Canton, but it rained on us nearly to Beresford. We lost one chain and a top-strap, the lights wouldn't work, and part of the time the engine was missing! Roads very muddy. Got to "Bub" Syverud's at 11:15. 1919. Hot and windy. Home all day. Amanda surprised us by coming at noon. She went out with August in night. Mrs. J.C. Denison and Gladys, now living in town, came a while, also Mr. and Mrs. Christianson and the Misses Ringrud of Elk Pt., here in eve. 1920. Helped iron, canned 5 qt. late peas, half of which i picked and shelled. Did a stack of mending (should be June 30.) 1921. Minnie and I did an 8 washerful washing- engine balked on us some.
