Memoranda 1917. June has been a backward month, even for Minnesota- too dry. We need a good soaking rain. Hans earned $28.46 in June, working at Ole Iverson's. Sweet corn is several inches high, beans also, rutabaga's up. pumpkins, etc. growing fine. 1918. Season ahead of normal in Clay Co., S Dakota. Wheat and other small grain ready for ripening- fields look great. Alfalfa nearly ready to cut second time. Hans has been getting $175 a month as Emergency Demonstration Agent in Clay Co. Our garden supplies our table well. 1919. Our trip to Iowa took more time than we planned. Weeds and everything else growing fine. Hilda takes lots of my time- nearly an hour each of the six times a day I feed her. 1920. Very busy on the farm. Hilda begins to step around, and to drink from cup instead of bottle. Her "brother Johnny" is on his way. Jim and Constance are engaged. 1921. Prolonged heat has hurried everything and hurt many crops.
