July 2 1917. Windy & raw. Fearing it might frost, as some predicted, I covered our beans, corn, and cucumber, and we walked to town and covered beans & tomatoes - and we stayed all night in our town home. New iron bed sleeps fine. I was tired, after our strenuous evening. Our new "Conservo" steam cooker came. 1918. I worked in home garden, baked nut bread and mince pie. I. B. Johnson (13 Ames) State Co. Agent leader of Brookings was here for supper. He met with Clay Co. Commissioners who finally came across with $1500 expenses for the year. J. C. Denison also here for supper. He took us to Chautauqua in evening to hear Bob Seeds. In P.M. I went with Mrs . Peter Miller to hear Hawaiians in P.M. 1919. Baby woke early - 4:30 for her feed. Then I got at my washing right away, & got it all done before noon. tho Hilda was somewhat fretful. She slept while we weeded beans in big garden in evening. Letter from Adela. Wrote to mamma. Card from Hozels which I answered. 1920. Good rain in night. I canned 1 1/2 of gooseberry preserve, 3 of gooseberry. Juneberry conserve Lottie Hunter and I went to Elwood in Ford in P.M. Called on Rev. Snider & arranged to reopen Godard church. 1921. Kept us busy fixing drinks for harvesters. Baked bread, mended, etc. In evening we took Alfred home and we got back at 11:10. I feel very sore & tired. Minnie went to Haman's in evening.
