JULY 7 1917. Baked oatmeal cookies and dried apple pie. Tried for an hour to get our gasoline iron to work, but had to wait till evening, when Hans "fixed it with a monkey-wrench." George Carlson brought us bushel of fine potatoes in evening. Crocheted. Tinned some rutabagas. Worked up firewood till 9:30. 1918. A cloudy day. We spent about six hours putting "Essenkay" tire filler in one rear tire - some job. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crowdell from Elk Point (Co. agent of Union Co) and Mr. and Mrs. Leyman were here for supper, tho it was an impromptu affair. 1919. Hilda was fine all day. I canned 2 qt. peas and cleaned some wild gooseberries, a slow job. Miss McNeil, Laura and "May" here for porch call. J.C. Varnum here for supper. Had first carrots for dinner. 1920. Hans helped me till nine with the washing as Constance wasn't able to. Rained on a few before I got them in in P.M. Mended and sewed. Had first red raspberries for supper. 1921. We herded the cows in the east road, Minnie at far end, the babies and I at this end, from after breakfast till ten o'clock.
