JULY 8 1917. Hans and I walked to Ole's for milk before breakfast. Walked to church, tho roads were sticky. Got spinach and lettuce from school garden and onions and radishes from our Norby garden. Walked out, tho very hot for here. We picked wild strawberries for a shortcake for supper, which Hans made. 1918. Hans and I put in second Essenkay tirefiller in a very short time. After dinner Hans took Miss Dodge and me to Peter Hesla's where she demonstrated cold pack canning to 16 women. I canned 1 qt. carrots for us and 3 of Swiss chard, which I gave Mrs. Hesla. Edna Peterson & mother here in evening. 1919. Had first beets. Letter from Helen. I walked to town after dinner, Hilda weighs 10 1/2#. Canned a qt of wild gooseberries and cleaned more. 1920. Picked a long row of peas, which made me very tired. Constance able to iron some. Rev Snider called. Olga, Orville and Helena here in evening. Helena stayed all night. 1921. Sewed on Hilda's dress, putting in pink-edged crochet yoke she got for her second birthday, and scalloping bottom with pink crochet. We went to Floyd Graves' a few minutes in eve. Letter from Anna Wilson. Canned 4 qt. blackberries.
