JULY 9 1917. Hoed potatoes etc. Crocheted. Took Hans' and my dinner to Ole's woods, where we picnicked the noon hour. Then I played with their kids a while. Mrs. gave me fish which Boldt (who owns "our' farm) caught. Helped in the garden in evening, transplanting sunflowers. 1918. Washed and baked war bread and rhubarb pie. Went along to Garfield hall, where Miss Dodge demonstrated to 30 women. I canned 1 qt. Kohlrabi and 1 of rhubarb and helped her with beans, etc. Late getting back. Miss Dodge here for dinner and supper. 1919. Canned another qt of gooseberries and cleaned more. Got most of big washing hung out by 10:30 & all before noon. Very hot in P.M. First that the heat bothered Hilda. Mr. Scarbro here a few minutes in evening. 1920. Canned 5 qt. peas - Glen pickled them. Also canned 3 qt. wild gooseberries, my half of some Constance picked in our woods. Hans and Helena went to Maquoketa and got Adela and took her home. 1921. We baked bread and blackberry pies and cream cake. I finished Hilda's dress and made her a slip with crocheted yoke Constance sent her and knitted lace bottom her great grandmother made. Rev Snider called.
