JULY 13 1917. Spent four hours in school garden, hoeing onions, husking peas, pulling weeds etc. Transplanted cabbage, hoed parsnips, etc. on town lot. Got cut glass dish from Reno, emb. towel from Jo, and pair of emb. tea towels from Hazel Grimes, pie knife from Granger school ma'ams. 1918. We sold to Spensley's grocery a clothesbasket full of Swiss chard - 20 bunches. Cooked a lot of vegetables, steamed bread, baked mince pie, and canned 1 pt. peas at once in steamer. Worked in garden till dark again, hoeing. 1919. Hans and I drove to Peter Hesla's in forenoon and stayed for dinner, including their first red raspberries. They gave us rhubarb and walnuts. It had rained lots out there, with only a shower here. 1920. Finished washing by 9:30, earliest this summer. Rained on it, as usual. 1921. Hilda better. Hot day, above 100 again. Velma here since yesterday. Minnie went to her grandfather's funeral in P.M. In morning she picked berries & I canned 7 more qt. Letter from mamma.
