July 17 1917. Put up another quart of berries, then walked to town for more cans, carrying in 4 dozen eggs to pack. Edna Clark sent me aluminum shaker set. Walked whole trip except Ford ride about 1/4 way in. Forgot my keys- climbed in window! Transplanted 8 cucumbers to town, and hoed out quack grass. Rained in town. Got home about 6:00 P.M. Transplanted sunflowers. 1918. Had headache. Saw Barnes' circus parade downtown with Hans. Scrubbed front porch with our new hose. Spent an hour and a half with Mrs. Brown and their baby girl. Wrote circle letter. Letter from Mrs. John Cogswell. Hans and I worked in big garden till dark. We planted 1 1/2 # peas and a few rutabagas. 1919. Hot and dusty. Got my ironing done in P.M. and evening. Went to big garden at noon with Hans for picture taking. 1920. Adela picked and she, Hans, and I shelled a lot of peas. I canned 3 1/2 qts. Hans sick-worked too long yesterday. I still feel weak. Baked bread, did odd jobs, worked in garden. 1921. Hot Sunday. Baked 2 cakes. Flies are an abominable pest here, and everywhere this year. Henry and Lily Greenwald here in P.M., also Olga and Orville, Adela, and Lily and Clara Ehlers a little while.
