July 19 1917. Canned a pint of berries, baked bread and dried apple pie. Took Hans' lunch to him, and we spent noon hour in woods as usual. I walked to Lars Ophtedahl's to get eggs from them and Stanglands'. Very hot. Worked in the garden again in evening, thinning 'bagas and watering beans, etc. 1918. Made three quarts of bean pickles for Mrs. Pifer and 3 of plain beans for myself in canning kitchen in morning, and supervised Red Cross girls can 7 qts more beans for Mrs. Davis. Mailed circle letter and letter to Hazel Scott. Prof and Mrs. Leyman went home from summer school here. 1919. A nice lot of Saturday work I planned did not get done, as Hilda wouldn't take her forenoon sleep. I just made 1 1/2 qt. cucumber rings and cleaned out a little of the dust. Down town in eve. to see Amanda a few minutes. 1920. Worked in garden, harvesting onions + weeding. We canned 4 qt. beet pickles. I finished my blue union-alls. Card from Cousin Emma, and one from Herman in Winnipeg for 4 days. Over to folks' a few minutes in evening. 19
