July 24 1917. Hans finds he is No. 227 out of 550 registrants in Clearwater Co. We moved to town in two Ford loads. We began straightening up in real earnest. I mopped front room. We unpacked my desk + sewing machine. Our landlord, Mr. Odegard, called. Beans blooming fine. Ate first turnips. I canned 1 pt. spinach. We watered sweet corn + "cukes". 1918. Mamma and I went to town early in A.M. to avoid heat - or try to. She bought me crumb tray. I got fly trap and cream pitcher. Edna typed three newspaper articles for me- canning kitchen stuff. We're having ripe tomatoes every day to eat. 1919. Hans out in country all day. We can have Whitney's farm for $11 an acre rent next year and we have decided to rent for three years. Sewed. Canned 2 qt. late peas. 1920. A little cooler. Baked bread and did up my blue marquisette dress. Sewed up my checked apron and made some red cross stitch on it.
