JULY 26 1917. Baked bread and lemon pie. Hans set up library table he made and helped me in the house. I made voile curtains for dining room. Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Day - our first guests - here for supper. We had 7 vegetables, including new potatoes, carrots, peas and parsley. They took night Ford ride to farm in S. Minn. We find tomatoes set. 1918. Helped Hans put "Essenkay" in front tires. But it made me late to my regular time in canning kitchen. Had 3 girls canning my beets and Swiss chard for Mrs. Ufford. Mamma went down with me. Letter from Adela, that her folks are not coming to visit us. 1919. Had our first Golden Bantam sweet corn to eat. Hot. I cleaned up dusty house, baked bread and sponge cake and did a small ironing. Amanda here for supper, then we all went to aero show at fair grounds. 3 aeroplanes and 3 racing autos. First time I saw aeroplane ascend from ground. Hilda weighs 12 lbs. 1920. Got Whitney's quilting frames from Lafe Scott's and began quilting Hilda's light blue quilt. Dressed a chicken. Had picnic dinner out by oats field in edge of timber. Wasted a lot of time catching horses in pasture, and had to rest out in woods. 1921. Signe was not contented out of my sight all day, so couldn't help iron much. Letter from mamma, why they couldn't come for berries. About 9 loads of people here, picking 75 qt. at least.
