JULY 28 1917. 106° by govt. thermometer, and a scorching wind. I mopped bedroom, baked oatmeal cookies, and continue in straightening and putting away things. We went shopping in P.M. then to the lake, Lammond, where I had my first dip. First beets to eat. Watered garden in evening again. 1918. Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Peterson and Edna were here for dinner. We had potatoes, kohlrabi, beets, pickled beans, tomatoes, corn from our garden, also brown bread, honey, cookies. Mamma, Hans and I attended church in evening at M.E. church, Rev. Gagnier preached on "Where is Heaven?" 1919. Still hot and dusty. Didn't get my big washing all finished till after dinner. Wrote to Hazel Grimes. Had headache in P.M. First aster in bloom. 1920. Helped iron, mended, quilted. Letters from Helen and Anna Wilson. We had first Golden Bantam sweet corn to eat. 1921. Slept till nearly 7 for once. I needed it. Made soap, 8 glasses of blackberry jelly and 1 pt jam. Minnie canned 3 qt. making 106 qt. Vashti Scott here in P.M. I made sleeves on new yellow voile waist for me.
