AUGUST 4 1917. Baked oatmeal cookies and bread. Hans put in a day in repair work around the house, new screens, etc. I helped him straighten out iron bed springs. Had a fine shower in the morning. I unpacked my cedar chest. 1918. Very hot. I wrote to Mrs. "Bub" [Syveried?]. Helena, and Margaret Schneider. Letter from Helena in Minn. At 4:00 Hans and I started out just as it began sprinkling. Had hard time getting down curving hill - then it stopped raining. We found neither Keck's nor Montgomery's at home. At Yankton also failed to find wild grapes 1919. Amanda and I canned 8 qts. corn and she 6 qt. tomatoes. Then in P.M. I cut out rose kimono for her and we sewed on it. For a week or two we expect to keep up this program, both of us can for me in A.M. and sew for her in P.M. She and I went to garden in eve in Ford. 1920. Was choreboy most of forenoon, milking, leading horse to hayfork, driving Dexter to creamery etc. Then I baked bread, cake, and oatmeal cookies in preparation for threshers tomorrow - then it rained from 3 o'clock on, first rain for about a month. 19
