AUGUST 15 1917. Stained and filled all the magazine rack except top board, and sandpapered some. Spent six hours at it. Baked chocolate pie and biscuits. Got embroidered doily from Cousin Emma. Used last old potato. Started to write "Hilda's Helps in Home-Making" 1918. Hans got home soon after midnight. Rainy forenoon. Hot P.M. - fine for finishing drying my corn. I started drying apples. Canned 1 1/2 qt. "Yum-Yum" pickles (onion & sliced cucumber). Did my last week's ironing and some mending. Mrs. Kirby called. 1919. Canned 6 qt. yellow tomato (4 plain, 1 juice and 1 preserves) and 4 qt. applesauce, 1 1/2 qt. applebutter, and 2 glasses apple jelly. Baked bread and rolls. No one to get dinner for again. Hans gone all day and till late. He got his portable moving picture machine for the Farm Bureau. 1920. Rev. Snyder at S.S. making 25 there. I drove our Ford. Fried chicken for dinner. We were at folks in P.M. - had watermelon. Adela came home with us to get corn in morning. We printed pictures in eve. Jim also helping. 1921. Quite cool. Felt quite proud of myself - began my fall sewing, making Hilda a warm nightgown. She wore it, too. Also began learning a new piece of music, Beethoven "Minuet in G".
