AUGUST 16 1917. Baked bread and cornmeal gingerbread. Rye bread much better - not sticky. Hans and I picked peas in school garden before breakfast. I canned 3 qts. Sandpapered chair legs of Morris chair and helped put magazine rack together. Missed another caller - Mrs. Barness. 1918. A hot day. Just before noon, Han's father and mother and Velma came, surprising us. I baked oatmeal muffins and quick coffee cake. Canned 1 pt. cherries and 1 1/2 qt. watermelon pickles. Went to see Missouri R. in P.M., thru brush, etc. Stopped at Josperson's. Went to Denison's little while in evening. Letter from Emily H. 1919. Baked 3 pumpkin pies and white cake, did baby washing and cleaned up house and boiled the silver. Did a little needed mending. To town in evening. Got wedding present for Mildred with some of Margaret's board money. Margaret went home at noon. To town in eve. Mrs. Denison came back with me. Amanda came in in eve. 1920. Had 6 timothy threshers for dinner, also Rev. Snyder and Georgie. Fried chickens. Whitneys were all here in P.M. Fern and Rev. Hanson too. Had first K.W. beans for dinner. Adela, Jim, Constance and we all went to Olga's in evening. 1921. Washed and hung out white clothes, but it rained on them. Wrote '15 circle letter.
