August 21 1917. Did a two weeks' washing, baked white cake for reception, and pressed clothes for it. Had heavy rain and some hail in morning. Reception for Dr. Bjorneby, who is to be army surgeon, in gymnazium in evening. We tried to learn to play whist-progressive. 1918. Took Miss Walker's place in canning kitchen as she took mine Friday. Mrs. Mitchell canned tomatoes. I canned 1 qt. after I came home. Felt queer all day. Made Hans' mother a knitting bag like mamma's. Got circle letter, and one from mamma. 1919. Amanda stayed with us over night. Hans and "Doc Yak" went to Beresford. I finished "Yutch's" costume, canned 2 qt. tomato, mopped, tried to sew, and did the ironing. Went to Hans' office in evening, where we begin training canning teams. 1920. Good rain in night. Cleaned silver, swept upstairs, scrubbed porches, mopped linoleums, etc. Miss Hunter helped me in A.M. out of the goodness of her heart. In P.M. went with Rev. Snyder and Mrs. Broderson to Alf. Ruggeberg's where we planned first Guild meeting. 1921. Made a 14# cheese + apple pies. Left at 10:30 for Olga's. Went with them to Wapsie River near Toronto. Had wienie picnic dinner. Gruenwald's also there. Home at 5:30. Church in evening.
