August 26 1917. Probably our last quiet Sunday for some time. I got $10 from Country Gentleman for "Many Choice Concoctions from Cider." We read in the porch swing, got a lot of pine needles. I wrote to Cousin Emma and Mabel Crossley. 1918. Wrote to Mabel Crossley. Up late. Had whole half gallon last night's milk to use that Myer's gave us. I canned 1 qt each ground cherries, (pear) yellow tomatoes, and tomato sauce, and 1 pt. each cucumber pickles, and (plum) round yellow tomatoes. Baked barley gingerbread, + biscuit. Helped Hans wash, polish, etc. our Ford in eve. 1919. Up late, Amanda and I did a big washing. A nice rain settled the dust, so we scrubbed and cleaned up a little. I finished my waist. Had to change to high school for my girls to work. Had an extra girl, but finally turned her over to a possible 3" team. 1920. Adela helped me can 8 qt applesauce and I canned 5 qt. sweet apple pickles, 1 qt. K.W. beans and 2 of tomatoes. Sheriff Ramsey of Clinton tried to serve papers on us to appear in Sept. court for Banks' damage suit, but I eluded him and Hans was in Nashville. We went to folks' a while, then decided to stand the suit. 1921. Letter from August + Anna. Canned another 5 qt grape-apple sauce. Washed my hair for once.
