SEPTEMBER 1 1917. We went to the butter makers' and bought a half bushel of green tomatoes, from which I made 11 1/2 qts. mock mince meat. I washed windows, scrubbed front porch, baked white and rye bread, custard pie, and oatmeal cookies. Hans and I picked a quart of "cukes" at the farm. Clearwater Co. celebration here for drafted soldiers. We went to park a while. 1918. J.C. Denison and wife, Gladys and Winfield, here for dinner. Mr. and Mrs. C. Christianson spent P.M. here. Was sick - sort of head-achy in evening. 1919. Big Labor Day picnic at Alsen - 6000 or more. Hilda slept all night and was just fine all day. We got movies going by 2:30. I sold tickets most of the time till 7:30 when I went home with Mrs. Denison. Hilda fussy till midnight. 1920. Very busy day: finished ironing, including dining room curtains, baked white cake, mopped spare room and beat its rug and straightened it up; mopped linoleums, etc. George and his bride, married at noon, arrived at 5:15 in their Ford. August, his fiance Ann Vopel, Adela, and Velma, here a while in P.M. 1921. Got along nicely, as Hans and Pete and Han's father were all who were here. Both Hilda and Signe play so nicely, together part of the time.
