SEPTEMBER 5 1917. Picked huge beets in school garden. Pickled three quarts, also two of carrots. Baked cake and mock mince pie. Went to see Mrs. Degernes a few minutes. We four played "500" in evening. Cold in evening. 1918. Canned two quarts plums and baked loaf of wheatless bread before going to fair. Finished judging fancy work at fair, most of which I did yesterday P.M. Miss Lanphier here for supper. Returned Tjaden's butcher knife we borrowed yesterday and visited there a while. Tired. 1919. Got 1st on canned corn, peas, and kohlrabi, lima beans and 2nd on apple butter & tomato preserves. 1st on display of photos. Fair holds over today. I went in P.M. and we had the two Myrtles and Muriel practise canning together. Went home early and finished belt for my salmon waist. 1920. Emma and I went to S.S. 18 there. Adela and Velma stayed here for dinner. It rained, and Adela stayed over night. We went to church in eve. Only 20 some there. 1921. We began peach canning - 6 qts. I did last week's mending and finished up second pillowcase with insertion. Adela begins her third year at Elwood.
