SEPTEMBER 6 1917. Did most of ironing and mending. Hans set up two heating stoves. Miss Sinclair and I went to school garden for corn and turnips. Mrs. Blackman and Miss Wagener called. Miss Robertson and I beat 3 games out of 4. 1918. Got first wheat flour since March 16. Baked bread, canned 3 qts. plum-apple-butter. We took down & brought home our garden display. I had to begin keeping house again and clean up some. We went to Howard Peterson's funeral in P.M. - a military funeral. We pickled brown beans in eve. 1919. Busy day, an immense washing and ironing, most of which Amanda did. I finished the sewing on my plaid & blue gingham dress in P.M. and made its buttonholes in evening. Packed for State Fair. Lyle and Thure Swanson and Ernest Hanson, stock judging team, stayed with us all night. An Elwood Consolidated School bus stops here for Adela. 1920. Thru washing by 10 except some hanging up. Cousin Emma did all the dishes, and helped a lot, with baby and housework. We took naps in P.M. I sewed a little on my checked apron-dress. Card from Geo and Mary at McGregor. 1921. I carved up one of Billy's front quarters, from which we canned 25 qts. Also canned 4 qts peaches and 2 qt apples. Baked bread. Very busy day.
