SEPTEMBER 7 1917. I put up eight quarts of green tomato marmalade - another successful experiment. Hans and I went to C.E. social at church - short program -welcome to teachers - stunts - games - good eats. Washed my hair in P.M. - nice sun and wind. 1918. Canned 1 pt. ground cherries, 1 qt. watermelon preserves, and 1 qt. plum jelly. Cleaned bathroom and kitchen. Began to get ready for Keck's coming to dinner tomorrow, then got word they can not come. Slept an hour in P.M. Getting a cold. We finished pickling brown beans, and began on navy beans. 1919. Finished packing, etc. At 11:20 A.M the "Katzen-jammer family" left for state fair - Hans & his wife and baby, grandma (Mrs. Foster), 4 boys and 3 girls. Had dinner on train. Took alcohol lamp for heating water for Hilda. We all will stay at dormitory of Huron College. 1920. While Emma did most of the ironing, I dressed a chicken, made 4 glasses grape jelly and 2 qt. of juice, & baked grape pie. Hilda was fussy with a cold. At 4:00, Emma and I left her here and went to woods and got 2 big bucketfuls of fine wild plums. 1921. Didn't get thru washing till 3:30 as I had engine trouble and Hans was silo filling at Weideman's. We had 6 men for supper, who were cutting corn. I baked little chocolate cakes, etc.
