SEPTEMBER 18 1917. Did a big washing. Went to Red Cross, sewing on gray pajamas again. Finished crochet edge (Vandyke leaf border) on centerpiece for Artie Gates Niles. 1918. First real frost of the season. I pressed Han's suit, & packed lunch. We started at 10 for Inter-State Fair at Sioux City. Mrs. Tjaden went with us to shop. We saw lots of stock - a good fair. Talked with Grace Conlon, Profs. Kildee, Bishop, Coverdale; Geo. Dunlop, Trevert, [illegible]. Met O.H. Benson. Home at 6:00 P.M. Girls helped us pick beans & citrons, then played 500 with us. 1918. Fine comfortable weather. I made a dress for Hilda from old white crepe ('dress' crossed out) slip of mine. Walked to town after Amanda came home from school. Spent an hour with Mrs. Miller in P.M. 1920. Got my mopping, porch scrubbing, etc. done early. Baked 2 lemon pies, and bread. Han's father and John Scott here for dinner. Jim gone silo-filling. Milked 3 cows. Washed towels and a tablecloth. 1921. Fine sunny day. Very cool in morning. In P.M. Hans and I snapped a small load of corn. Signe sat in her box in field & Hilda slept at house. Snyder's took us to church - his last time before conference..
