SEPTEMBER 20 1917. Finished ironing and did some mending. Went to town & creamery in P.M. Hans and I beat the girls at 500. Quite warm. In the dark and rainy night, somebody tried to steal our pigs. We will lock them in barn, nights. 1918. A real freeze. 32° at 8 o'clock, Mrs. Gallup said. Canned 1 pt. vine peach. 1 qt. muskmelon butter, and 3 qts. chili sauce. Took nap, then, tho 4:15, I went to Prof. Over's to Ladie's Aid. Letters from Uncle John, Aunt Minnie, and mamma. Wrote to Herman. Mamma is planning to have us all home. 1919. Amanda did most of the washing and cleaning while I tried to sew. We tried on coats in P.M. I also drove to office again in P.M. Hans and I went to see Keith in hospital in evening. Made 3 bottles catsup. 1920. Silo fillers all day. Had 2 extra men for breakfast, 11 men for dinner and supper. No help till 4:30, when Adela comes from school. Baked 3 apple pies, chocolate cake, & big batch of bread. Hot. 19
