SEPTEMBER 22 1917. Put up another quart of peaches from the crate. Halvorsen and Stowell helped Hans put saloon fixtures into barn loft, and stayed for dinner. Then they all and Coggswells went to Four-legged lake near Trefz', duck hunting. They got two teal. I picked two rows beans, fed pigs, etc. We picked ducks till 11 P.M. 1918. A beautiful autumn day. We went to church. Worked on auto expense accounts. Prof. Tjaden's called; also Messrs. West and Russell, soliciting for church subscriptions. 1919. Cool as it could be without frost. Ironed, and did quite a bit of mending. We all pulled beans in big garden between school and a late supper. Amanda and I picked 1-1/2 bu. yellow ponderosa tomatoes. We had last mess of roasting ears for supper. 1920. August and Anna Vopel were married in Maquoketa in A.M. I did a big washing. Jim quit and I took him to town at one o' clock, then went to Guild meeting at Brun's. Hans home late from silo-filling at Dan Black's, then we did chores till a late supper at 8:30. 19
