SEPTEMBER 26 1917. Had first parsnips to eat. Canned 6 qts. peaches. Made last tomatoes into mock mincemeat. Hemmed another napkin. Mrs. Coggswell came for parsley plants. Bought rug at rummage sale. Hans and I went to school garden after school, and entered celery, parsnips, salsify and pie pumpkin at fair. 1918. Hans left at 5:30 with Jack Crandall in his overland for Mitchell. I canned 2 qt. ground cherries (the last ones) and 3 bottles (2 qt.) of green tomato catsup. Called on Mrs. Rees and Mrs. Stewart, my new neighbor on north. 1919. Made most of a striped white waist for Amanda, cleaned my bedroom, washed kitchen windows, etc. Took nap. After supper we drove to Dunlop's 40 Acre melon field and brought home several watermelons. Began pickling Golden Bantam sweet corn seed. 1920. Last S.S. for this summer - we need teachers too badly to keep on now. Hans and I picked a bucketful of peaches from our trees. (we have a bushel or two). Orville, Olga and Adela here in P.M. Wrote to mamma. 19
