September 27 1917. Had first salsify to eat. Breakfast early + dinner late because no school in P.M. I judged canned goods, butter + cheese, and baked goods at fair. We got first on salsify + second on celery. Carita and Margaret went home. R.G. Jones (I.S.C. '11) [of?] Pine City who judged stock was here for supper and a visit. 1918. Canned 4 qt. whole mixed pickle (cauliflower, onion, carrot, and green tomato). Baked spice cake. Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Miller went with me in Ford to order honey. I washed my hair, did several mending jobs on my duds, cut out and started striped middy. Got circle letter and wrote in it. 1919. While Amanda worked, I baked nut bread and frosted white cake. All P.M. we all worked in garden, storing navy and brown beans in Foster's hayloft, picking sweet corn seed, etc. Mrs. F. kept Hilda. 1920. Canned 7 qt. peaches, 4 of Winesap applesauce and 2 of tomato. Intended to help Hans' mother cook for their silo fillers, but they only had them for supper. Shortened a petticoat, heavy muslin one. Glen and I had chores done when Hans got home. 19
