Memoranda 1917. Freezes nearly every night, but late vegetables keep on growing. 10 bu. in cellar so far- seems early to store them. It keeps me busy, having the girls here, but I like it and them. I have 85 1/2 qts. canned. 1918. Only one cool spell this month. Celery, potatoes, salsify, + carrots still in ground. I have more than 300 qts. fruit and vegetables canned- mostly the latter. 1919. Only one very slight frost so far. Not very far along with vegetable harvest this year. Tho Hilda keeps me very busy, I have nearly 250 qts. canned. Amanda stays with us and goes to high school. 1920. Only frost, the last day of Sept. This a strenuously busy time on the farm. Silo erected and filled this month. Jim left, leaving no steady help in or outdoors, I have canned 272 quarts so far. 19
