October 4 1917. Canned a qt. of blue plums, ripped up Hans' old blue serge coat, and did a lot of mending- finally getting "caught up" with stocking mending. Hans and I are getting our accounts into regular book keeping shape. 1918. Hans and I and Sis in grape business. I canned 3 qt. and made some juice. Charlie, Maude, Royal, Perry, and baby Marjorie here for dinner (chicken pie). Wilmina (Raver) Hessel and her third, Marian, and Margaret Fitzgerald and Dorothy Davis there in P.M. Beatrice has chicken pox. We gave Sis about 20# beans. Aunt Minnie sent me h'dk'f for my birthday. 1919. Martin Swedling and his man were here over night and for breakfast. I lit oil stove at 3:00 A.M. when I fed Hilda and Amanda started engine at 6:20, calling wrath of neighbors on us, I baked white cake, helped her finish her dress. Hilda 6 mo. old today- 17 3/4 lb. We went down town in evening. Letter from Helen. 1920. Started fall housecleaning by cleaning hired man's room for Harry Long, who begins working here today. Also cleaned back stairs, and baked bread. Wrote to Helen and sent Sis Hilda's white serge coat and shirts for Mary Lydia. Wrote to Florence. Started crocheting h'dk'f edge. 1921. Washed, made peach + strawberry Bavarian cream for farewell reception for Rev. Snyder's. I'm catching a severe cold from washing milk machine in cold water this rain weather. The Guild gave Snyder's set of salad forks as farewell gift.
