October 6 1917. Very high wind. Carita and we went in Ford to McPherson's, then to Sannen's and bought 8 cords wood. I baked oatmeal cookies, and blacked 3 stoves- my first experience. In evening Misses Wagner, Hoch, and Oftelee, and Stowell and Halverson were here and played cards. Served apples. 1918. Gave Helen h'dk'f for her 18th birthday today. Sis gave me dainty comb + brush set for "Johnny." We left Elmenhurst at 9:15, August going with us. Picnic dinner on Indian reservation near Tama. Had blowout near Amana and puncture at State Center. Arrived at Florence's, near Ames, at 5:00. There we ran into birthday gathering in honor of Mrs. Jensen's 63rd birthday yesterday. 1919. More of "October's bright blue weather". I ironed an hour, made Helen a box of fudge for her birthday. finished embroidering sleeves on Hilda's dress, and sewed on it. Letter from Sis. Wrote to Florence. 1920. Pies an pears and panties- 3 pumpkin pies, [illegible] qt. pears, 1 pr. panties all done, and the 4 others except for the tops. Got circle letter and letter from mamma, in their new home in Davenport. Wrote to Laura Seward, teaching H.Ec. in Maquoketa, who wrote to me this week. 1921.
