October 9 1917. Washed. Got box of home-candy for birthday from Anna Wilson. Shopped. Picked up more potatoes. Some are frosted. Snow on ground in morning, which soon melted. 1918. Fine warm day. I washed and ironed 3 pairs of my dusty curtains, baked bread and bread-sponge cake. Mended a suit for Hans. Mrs. Stewart and Helen and Mrs. Rees called in P.M. and Mr. and Mrs. Over in evening. Sent mamma card. Loretta Engler has quit here, so "Mac" is our only roomer. 1919. Mopped bathroom, finished embroidering Hilda's dress, made Hilda's other mitten. Her great grandmother sent her knit lace for a petticoat. Made "thermos bottle" from an oatmeal-box and a pound milk-bottle (Horlick's) 1920. Hans and I cut up half a 200# pig- (his folks got other half. I fried out 10 or 15# lard, canned 10 qt. ham, ribs, etc. and 2 pt. liverwurst, and we made sausage. I also baked bread. Was all tired out. Hilda was unusually good, playing out doors all day except for 2 hour nap. 19
