October 26 1917. Cleaned downstairs. Mrs. Barness called across street for me to go right away (9:30 A.M) to hear of Y.M.C.A. war work. Got home at 11:05 to start fire and get dinner. Re-made center of braided rug, began hemstitching tablecloth. Wrote to Millie, and to Helena Skott. 1918. Baked pumpkin pies and oatmeal cookies. Mended some husking mittens for August, who is spending today in Sioux City. Letter from Amanda. [Otto?] is married. I finished crocheted doily, 12 in. in diameter, I began last week. A little more snow. Tjaden's and we sent order to M.W. 1919. Change to good old sun time. August here for last half of night, breakfast, and dinner. He, Amanda, and I went to church. Hans came home just in time to keep Hilda. We spent most of P.M. in office. I wrote to mamma. 1920. Rainy and cold, but I washed and left the clothes in the rinsewater, smallest washing this season- only four washerfuls. Baked sponge cake. Hilda slept two hours in P.M. and I, one. Began crocheting her white wool hood. Letter from Helen. 19
