October 29. 1917. Baked doughnuts. In P.M. heard Miss Genevieve Burgan of Ext. Dept of Univ of Minn. give demonstration on War Breads, which I helped knead and talk on Food Conservation in Red Cross room. We only use 3# wheat flour per wk per person. 1918. Made the seven buttonholes on little kimono, put new hoops in my knitting bag, shrunk 6 yds. blue checked gingham, went to town in P.M. Crocheted filet square for h'dk'f. Letter from Hazel Scott. Hans and I spent hour or so at Dr. Thoms' in evening. He gave us a stereopticon picture [show?] 1919. Letter from Helen. Hilda practically rid of her cold. I pressed my dress and put last stitches in it, packed suitcase, etc. At 3 P.M. Hans, baby and I departed for Garfield twp. taking a load of batteries, etc. Changed from sunshine to cold wind and cloudy on way out. Stayed at Wm Hanson's. 14 people there in all. 1920 Froze hard again. Felt rather weak. Crocheted on Hilda's hood, finished pillowcases, cut out sewed on white nightie for "Johnnie"- the first sewing I've done for him. Adela stayed all night, she and I doing milking so Hans could go to town to settle for folks' [illegible] 19
