November 1 1917. We got up at 5 A.M. and brought home our pig pen from high school where Hallowe'en kids put it. None of them knew how it got back. I baked oatmeal bread, ironed, wrote to Edna Clark. Miss Burgan talked on Food Values. August came before noon, on his way from Canada to Iowa. Cathedral Quartette, 2d no. on course, fine. 1918. Sunny all day-first time for more than week. I ironed in 2 hrs., mended, hemmed 6 soft wash cloths. Ordered barrel of Ben Davis apples down town. Sent birthday note to Hans' mother. "Mac" gave me pair of pillowcases she crocheted. I crocheted most of edge on flaxon h'dk'f. 1919. Fine day- Got up at 9:30, then "moved" home from Hanson's. Missed seeing girls (Amanda and Kathryn) at Swedling's, where they stayed last night. Hans had to take sales tent to Yankton. Did big washing for baby in P.M. August here in eve. Girls at [Wince's?] over night. 1920. Rained most of day. I finished Hilda's hood, with blue edge; also little nightie. Sent cards to mamma and Bert Goldsberry, and order to M.W. + Co. Letter form Amanda. Cleaned up spare room. 19
