November 4 1917. Church again. Rev. Dale back form vacation. Had roast duck for dinner, that Orville Kolb gave us. Opened first canned goods- mock mince meat. Looked over old Students. Thought there was church in evening. Instead, Rev. Dale was ill. We played penochle at Cogswell's. 1918. I started fifth little kimono, with blue buttonholed scallops. Washed the south windows on outside. Worked on another crocheted doily like one I made last month, and started to pick out a new crochet pattern for a h'dk'f edge. Hans at Wakonda again and home for late supper. Wrote to Flo. 1919. Canned 3 qts. pumpkin. Miss Lyness came in from Garfield "Better Schools" meeting, and stayed rest of night and breakfast (at 10), but she gave me $2. Down town in P.M. Hilda weights 20 1/4 # at 7 mo. Martin Swedling and Pat Purcell and wife here for supper. Amanda and I called on Prof. [name]. 1920. Baked pumpkin pies; cut out long everyday coat for Hilda from old dark gray diagonal striped one of mine; Cousin Frank came up from Davenport to Nashville. Hans was in Maquoketa, so Harry brought Frank and 3 big barrels of apples Leslie sent. Hilda cut first double tooth, at 19 mo. 19
