November 5 1917. Up late to begin a full day. Did a huge washing- done by 2. Baked oatmeal bread- but it was no good, worst since I've kept house. Hans was "Vet"- called out 5 miles- came back all tired out for his dinner at 4 P.M. We went to bed at 7:15. I was tired, too. 1918. Worked on kimono, doily, and handkerchief. Letter from Aunt Emma. Election is Rep. and gives Woman Suffrage in S.D. I made my first soap- pretty fair it turned out. Called on Mrs. Stewart, but she was ready to go to town, so didn't stay long. Men made cement floor for our new garage. 1919. Did a big washing. Fine day. Baked a pumpkin pie. Finished up crochet collar of medallions and set it on red wool dress. 1920. Fine weather again, and Hilda gets out to play. Mr. Whitney finally came out, and he, Hans, and Frank began extension on dairy shed. I baked fruit cake, buttermilk pie, dressed a chicken, did some mending, took regular nap, etc. Wrote to Leslie, and Florence. 19
