November 8
1917. Finally got at my ironing. Mended all afternoon. Wrote some jingles "A Hallowe'en Joke" for the "Bogley Weakly Breezes" for H.S. literary. Today finishes a whole week of fine weather.
1918. I washed all my bedroom curtains (4 prs.). Canned 3 qts. of cranberry-citron sauce. Made buttonholes in kimono. Patched husking mittens for August. Another letter from Mamma—Herman was turned down from military service because of defective eyesight.
1919. Baked buns I made yesterday, and a walnut cake. Made collar and cuffs for Amanda's coat. Letter from Florence. Hans came home at 4:00 A.M. and started for his folks' at 3:00 P.M. Rainy all evening. I stayed home instead of going downtown. Wrote to Grandma Elissat.
1920. Baked bread and chocolate cake. Rainy P.M. again. Adela stayed all night. Letter from Sis. They rented a farm 7 1/2 miles from Vinton. Crocheted on pillow case a little in evening.
