November 9 1917. Finished ironing and Friday cleaning. Washed some of the storm windows. Daisy got loose & Mrs. Barness & I rivaled movies in getting her, finally tying her in Cogswell's yard. At literary in H.S. in evening, Hans & Mr. Anderson talked about night school. 1918 Miss McEvoy left for home at 3:00 a.m., having resigned to go into gov't work at Washington. I ironed bedroom curtains in 2 hrs., washed bedroom windows, and cleaned up house. Baked cranberry muffins. Finished fifth kimono in eve. We also walked to town and found out Kaiser Bill had abdicated. 1919. August here all night and day. Beth Huetson was coming for dinner but phoned her change of plans. Rainy all day. Wrote to Hazel Scott. Amanda, August, and I played 500 with Mr. Keith in the hospital in P.M. Reading "Lorna Doone." 1920. A dark day. I dressed and roasted a chicken, baked Banbury tarts, sewed on Hilda's coat after my nap, wrote to Helen. Frank and I got beaten in whist, as usual. Letter from Constance. 19
