November 11 1917. Made fruit candy for my share in the Christmas package Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Cogswell, Mrs. Hansen, and myself are giving for a soldier somewhere. First day for about ten days that sun did not shine. Began knitting an aviation helmet- with Hans' help. 1918. Whistles blew at 5:00 a.m. to announce that Germany had really signed armistice. Holiday. Crowds, speeches, drills, and noise galore downtown both morning + P.M. Mr. Dawes of Brookings here for dinner. Hans and I brought power wash-machine we bought of Jasperson's in evening. 1919. Amanda and I did baby washing. No school. In P.M. we went to Armistice Day program by school children in opera house. Snowy and blizzardy coming home. Nearly finished Hilda's rompers. Stores closed so couldn't shop. Letters from mamma and Gail Mosser. 1920. Finished ironing before dinner. Mended. Cold and windy. Frank and Hans came up for coffee to warm up, both forenoon and P.M. Crocheted on hd'k'f. Wrote to mamma. Letter from Julia and from Emily H. 19
